For his leadership and valor, Private First Class Weldon was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan).
Notes
Private First Class Weldon was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while approaching the Yalu River in North Korea during the initial Chinese intervention on November 4, 1950. He died while a prisoner near Pyoktong, North Korea of exposure on February 16, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
