Notes
Sergeant Whalen was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while on patrol during the fighting on "Pork Chop Hill", North Korea on July 8, 1953. He was presumed dead on July 9, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
