Sergeant Major Williams was a member of Command and Control, 5th Special Forces Group. On October 3, 1966, he was inserted into Laos near the border, west of the Demilitarized Zone. The team immediately came under enemy fire and requested extraction. Sergeant Major Williams was listed as Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
