Major Williams was a member of the 14th Air Commando Squadron. On July 1, 1966, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skyraider Attack Aircraft (A1-E) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on August 2, 1994 and identified on May 16, 1995. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
