Captain Williams was a member of 20th Aviation Detachment (later known as the 131st Aviation Company). On January 9, 1966, he was the pilot of a Grumman Mohawk Aircraft (OV-1A) flying night reconnaissance over South Vietnam. Contact was lost when the aircraft was a short distance southwest of Tuy Hoa in Phu Yen Province. He was listed as Missing in Action. His remains were recovered on October 6, 1993 and identified on December 17, 1998. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
