Staff Sergeant Wogan was a rifleman with Company D, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On February 16, 1969, his unit secured a small landing zone in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam for the evacuation of the wounded. About 30 seconds after the helicopter lifted off a ground explosion occurred where Staff Sergeant Wogan was standing. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
