Notes
Private First Class Womack was a medic with the Medical Company, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On March 12, 1952, he was the only medical aid man attached to a night combat patrol near Sokso-ri, North Korea. When his patrol came under fire, although exposed to enemy fire, he rushed to the aid of his fallen comrades. He was severely wounded, but he refused medical aid and continued to administer the wounded. He lost his arm when a mortar burst nearby. He then advised others on first aid techniques, until he collapsed from loss of blood.
