Major Woods was a member of the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron. On June 26, 1968, he was an observer in a Cessna Skymaster Observation Aircraft (O-2A) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on October 19, 2004 and identified on February 9, 2007. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
