Commander Wright was a member of Carrier Air Wing 3 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS SARATOGA (CV-60). On November 10, 1972, he was the pilot of a Vought Attack Aircraft Corsair II (A-7A) on a combat mission along the Demilitarized Zone and over Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on September 13, 1990 and identified on December 11, 1990. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
