Private First Class Wurtsbaugh was a member of Company H, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade. On August 8, 1950, he was Killed in Action while defending his position near Chindong-ni, South Korea that protected the road leading to Masan. He was nicknamed "Pork" to reflect his love of football.
