Private First Class Young was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on July 5, 1950 and returned to duty on July 11, 1950. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in North Korea on December 2, 1950 and died while a prisoner on February 28, 1951. PFC Young's remains have been recovered and identified. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
