Private First Class Zapata was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Private First Class Zapata was a member of Battery A, 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. On January 27, 1954, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Chorwon, North Korea.
