Master Sergeant Zbella was an observer of a OE-1 Cessna observation aircraft with Marine Observation Squadron SIX, 1st Marine Division. On August 6, 1952, while on an artillery fire control mission, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire. Two parachutes were seen. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 16, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
