Lieutenant Junior Grade Zerbe was a member of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 1, U.S. Navy. On April 15, 1966, he was the pilot of a Seasprite Utility Helicopter (UH-2B) over North Vietnam when it crashed into the South China Sea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
