Private Napstad was assigned to Company L, 3rd Armored Division at Fort Knox, Kentucky. On May 2, 1952 he died as a result of a two-car accident on U.S. Highway 31 near Scottsburg, Indiana, about 31 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky.
