For his leadership and valor, Corporal Ames was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Medical Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Corporal Ames was a medic with the Medical Company, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while tending his wounded comrades on November 2, 1950 north of Unsan, North Korea and died in a prison camp on December 31, 1950 from malnutrition and frozen lower extremities. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
