For his leadership and valor, First Lieutenant Armstrong was awarded the Bronze Star, the Commendation Ribbon with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Notes
First Lieutenant Armstrong was a P-47 pilot during of World War II. He was on temporary duty to the 3587th Student Squadron, San Marcos, TX from the 1737th Ferry Squadron, 1708 Ferrying Group, Dover, DE. His H-19 Helicopter lost its rear rotor destroying the main rotor and causing the fatal crash at San Marcos on August 19, 1952.
