For his leadership and valor, Private First Class Baxter was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Private First Class Baxter was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On August 14, 1952, without regard for his safety, he personally attacked a fortified enemy position near Chorwon, North Korea to relieve his company from enemy fire. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
