For his leadership and valor, Sergeant First Class Bensinger was awarded the Bronze Star, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes

Sergeant First Class Bensinger was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving three years in the South Pacific. In Korea, he was a member of Company D, 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Kunu-ri, North Korea on December 1, 1950 and died in a prison camp at Hoboing, North Korean from malnutrition, exposure and dysentery on January 19, 1951. Sgt. 1st Class Bensingers’ remains were identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency in 2017. His name is permanently engraved in the Korean War “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu memorial.
