For his leadership and valor, Corporal Budke was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Corporal Budke was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. Initially, he was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy near Kunu-ri, North Korea on November 30, 1950. Later, it was determined he had been taken prisoner of war and died during a march to a prison camp on January 25, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
