For his leadership and valor, Captain Everett was awarded the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge with Silver Star, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, the French Croix de Guerre, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Captain Everett was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the commanding officer of Company C, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy about five miles east of Seoul, South Korea on March 18, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
