For his leadership and valor, Captain Gentile was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Silver with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Captain Gentile was a decorated veteran of World War II. He served with the 335th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 4th Fighter-Interceptor Group early during the Korean War. Later he was a test pilot at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. On January 28, 1951 his T-33 Shangri-La crashed killing him.
