For his leadership and valor, Captain Nadelhoffer was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Gold Star, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Captain Nadelhoffer was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with the Marine Fighter Squadron 212, Marine Air Group 12 aboard the carrier USS BADOENG STRAIT (CVE-116). On January 26, 1952, while flying over Hong-ga-ri, North Korea, his plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He ejected over Kirin-do Island but his parachute failed to open. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
