For his leadership and valor, First Lieutenant Strope was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during World War II, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
First Lieutenant Strope was a decorated pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber during World War II, serving in Europe. In Korea, he was the co-pilot of a B-26B Invader bomber with the 729th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Wing. On September 29, 1951, while on a night intruder mission with a searchlight, contact with the aircraft was lost. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on June 10, 1952. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
